25-Sep-2007 The annual Watford vs St Albans match (the Cheshire Board) was played at Watford this year. The turnout was good, with 18 boards being played. The final result was Watford 15 St Albans 3, so the board stays at Watford this time! 02-Jan-2007 As of Tuesday 2nd January 2007, the site is now being hosted locally in Watford. We hope this new arrangement provides all users with a higher level of reliability and convenience and improves enjoyment of using the site. 24-Dec-2006 There have been ongoing performance and reliability problems with our webhost (byethost.com). To top it all, it seems that they have cancelled our hosting account, so the website is currently unavailable until we can find a replacement host that can support the feature set required for a site as complex as ours. 19-Sep-2006 Mike Boyce, the Watford Chess Club champion, played an 18 board simultaneous exhibition tonight at the club. His overall score was 7½/18. Mike got 6 wins, 3 draws and lost 9 games. Well done, Mike!

Photographs were taken by the Watford Observer, and should appear in this week's issue. 16-Sep-2006 The Family Learning Week is a regular event held each year by the Watford Learning Partnership (Watford Council and West Herts Colleague). This year, we are supporting this event by providing learning and playing chess on Saturday 7th October 2006 (10am-1pm) at the Centrepoint Community Centre, Tuesday 10th October 2006 (6.30pm-7.30pm) at the club (Watford Town & Country Club) and on Saturday 14th October 2006 (6.30pm-8.30pm) at the Meriden Community Centre. 12-Sep-2006 The 10 minute tournament was held at the club on Tuesday, 12th September 2006. The winner was Venkataramanan Tiruchirapalli with 4½ out of 5. The runner up was Andrew Stone with 4 out of 5. Well done, guys! 27-Dec-2005 Due to the fact that the venue closes on bank holidays, there will be no meeting of the club on Tuesday 27th December 2005. It will re-open again normally on Tuesday 3rd January 2006. Seasons greetings and we hope to see you in the new year! 03-Nov-2005 Watford Chess Club launches experimental live league tables. Please forward any comments using the contact form. 22-Oct-2005 Please note that the BCF (British Chess Federation) has changed its name to the ECF (English Chess Federation). Their website continues to live at www.bcf.org.uk. 18-Oct-2005 The new Watford Chess Club website is launched, under its own domain name (watfordchessclub.org.uk). This will now be its permanent home. 08-Oct-2005 As part of Family Learning Week, there was a chess event in Watford town centre (next to the One Bell pub). Watford Chess Club were on-hand with boards and sets, and there was a larger garden set (provided by M. Miller of Westfield College). Several of the club members were present throughout the afternoon and it seems fair to say a good time was had by all. 27-Sep-2005 The annual Watford vs St Albans match (the Cheshire Board) was played at Watford this year. The turnout was good, with all 20 boards being played. The final result was Watford 11 St Albans 9, so the board returns to us this time! 24-Sep-2005 The Watford South Scout District 2005 Chess Competition was held at St. Mary's Church in Watford. Watford Chess Club supported the event (with the loan of boards and sets), and was on hand to help with adjudications. A certificate was given (now pinned on club noticeboard). 20-Sep-2005 Venkataramanan Tiruchirapalli (aka "Venkat"), the Watford Chess Club champion, played a 12 board simultaneous exhibition tonight at the club. His overall score was 10/12. Only four of his opponents managed a draw (J. Rudge, B. Morris, A. Kearns and D. Healey). Everyone else came away empty-handed. Well done, Venkat!

Well done, guys! 06-Sep-2005 Watford Chess Club held its AGM at the club on Tuesday, 6th September 2005. One of the topics discussed was the idea of holding a simultaneous exhibition with GM Daniel King. Our president is looking into this, and if practical we hope to hold it before Christmas. The cost would be £10 per board (for everyone, members, non-members or members visiting from other clubs). 15-Jun-2005 There was a meeting of the Watford Chess Club executive committee on Wednesday, 15th June 2005. Among the topics discussed were the upcoming rule changes proposed by the HCA and issues regarding problems with the club venue. 07-Sep-2004 The Watford Chess Club AGM was held at the club on Tuesday, 7th September 2004. New team captains were discussed, as a number had stepped down after the previous season. 02-Sep-2003 The Watford Chess Club AGM was held at the club on Tuesday, 2nd September 2003. A main topic was what to do about unpaid members, and it was agreed that limiting unpaid members to only one league match would encourage prompt payment.
